These are 100% dried Extra-grade quality Porcini (Boletus Edulis or Cep) mushrooms picked from the Umbrian forests and prepared by our friends at Poddi Tartufi.
Just open the bag and marvel at the remarkably rich, heady aroma which exudes - this is the first sign of their quality. Then take a look at the large, whole pieces, not broken or flaky (check the photos below). They are full of flesh and destined to double their size in water.
Finally, once cooked, you have the inimitable nutty, woody taste that adds so much flavour and depth to so many dishes. You won't find better price for this quality in the UK!
Enjoy them in the magnificent Risotto ai funghi porcini or many other risottos. They are scrumptious lying on top of a thick succulent fillet of steak or chicken and very much at home in all kinds of pasta dishes, stews and sauces. Steak and Kidney, Beef or Chicken pies will never taste the same again.
Dried Porcini mushrooms are actually a good substitute to fresh as they concentrate all their flavour and aroma (a bit like sundried tomatoes). They are also full of proteins and make a great meat substitute in vegetarian dishes.
In the handy 25g bag are enough Porcini for 5 -6 good portions and they are so easy to prepare. Reconstitute by placing in hot water for 20-30 mins (use the water as stock). Fry them in butter, sauté or casserole. Real gourmet cuisine from the earth that doesn't cost the earth!
