Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil - San Gimignano 250ml |

A premium quality Tuscan IGP Extra Virgin Olive Oil from a cooperative of small farms around San Gimignano in the heart of Tuscany. Produced from a blend of organically grown (although not certified) classic Tuscan olive varieties: Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino it has an incredibly low acidity level 0.2%.
This is a classic full flavoured Toscano IGP. It has lovely golden yellow colour with green tones and intense fruit flavour characterised by artichoke, cardoon, with notes of almond and green leaf. The oil has a perfect balance of bitterness (good bitterness is important on an olive oil) and nice piquant finish.
Very versatile, it is perfect for garnishing salads and vegetables, as a finishing oil on fish and grilled meat or why not try drizzling it over bread before topping with some diced tomatoes, onions and garlic. Most Tuscans would have it on its own over crusty bread or with pinzimonia (raw vegetables as a starter). Delicious!
Tuscan IGP EVO oils are one of the world's favourites. Their reputation was tarnished in the 70s and 80s when cheap imitations flooded the market without even a sniff of Tuscan olives in them. This led to an EU decree in 1998 which gave the certification of protected origin (IGP) and each bottle has its own unique reference number. You can trace the individual bottle by inserting the code on the label here Toscano IGP tracing.

This is a single varietal extra virgin olive oil made from the wonderful Coratina olive which grows around the town of Corato in Puglia. Coratina olives are most often used as part of a blend with other olive oils while 100% Coratina oils like this are amongst the most important and highly regarded in Italy.
The Coratina olive is renowned for its very high levels of polyphenols antioxidant which make it extremely healthy and very stable with extended shelf life.
The olives selected by Granoro for this Dedicato (see below for more information on the special Dedicato range of products) olive oil are from a small farm in the hills surrounding Castel del Monte, one of the most prestigious olive growing areas in the Med. They are harvested by hand and immediately pressed to ensure the lowest levels of acidity. The frantoio (olive mill) still uses a traditional granite stone for pressing - this helps to transfer all the natural taste and goodness from olive to oil.
It has a striking golden-yellow colour with distinct green hues.
|
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
This Dedicato Coratina olive oil is both assertive and harmonious. It starts quite gently on the palate with hints of artichoke, apple and grass and then rallies to a spirited finale of vivacious fresh olive with pronounced pepper and pleasing notes of bitter greens and spices.
Its fresh, elegant aroma and complex depth of clean flavours are reminiscent of far more expensive oils.
If you like full-bodied oils, then this Coratina is a great all-rounder. However, there there are certain combinations where its robust flavours truly stand out - see below for some examples.
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS
As we mentioned, it is a great all-round olive oil. Below are just a few suggestions:
NB. Its high level of Polyphenols make it very stable and is perfect for frying or sautéeing.
A must-try with fresh tomatoes and Mozzarella.
It is one of the best oils we've ever tried for tasty Bruschetta or drizzling on just-grilled vegetables.
Perfect for all kinds of sauces, especially tomato-based or stews.
Fantastic for dips or marinades.
Your staple olive oil for barbeques.
Try it in bean salads or soups. In fact, any soup that requires a drizzle of oil will benefit.
Lovely with potato salads or salads featuring hearty flavours.
Use it on all kinds of lentil starters.
Wonderful as a dip with aged balsamic vinegar.
Superb on grilled fish or tuna/swordfish carpaccio.
Perfect for red or roasted meats and divine with roast game.

The Dedicato Range by Pastificio Atillio Mastromauro - Granoro
Puglia is a region of astonishing beauty and diversity but it also enjoys another distinction which perhaps isn't so well known in the UK; its outstanding farm produce.
The remarkable quality of vegetables, olives, cereals and legumes from Puglia is the tangible end result of an extraordinary terroir and centuries of farming tradition. The Dedicato Range of products celebrates the best Puglia has to offer - genuine products that are healthy and delicious. It also aims to help maintain sustainable farming in the area.
STRAIGHT FROM THE FARM
All the produce is cultivated in limited quantities on small farms in the region using traditional methods, then expertly transformed into the final product by a small group of local artisan companies. No supermarkets or large distributers are involved in what is an intimate process of bringing the consumer much closer to the producer.
The range includes pasta from select durum wheat varieties; wonderful cherry tomatoes and olive oil from Castel del Monte; Lentils and chickpeas from Altamura and the Alta Murgia National Park. They are all ancient varieties once commonly produced in the area until large-scale farming and industrial production meant the laborious working methods and s mall yields were no longer sustainable. Now thanks to projects like the Dedicato line, they are now making a comeback.
All the products carry a double seal of quality as they undergo regular and scrupulous quality checks by 2 independent bodies. They also have guaranteed traceable provenance.

One of the best value PDO (guaranteed protected origin) Extra Virgin Olive Oils you will find in the UK. The Terra di Bari - Castel del Monte PDO regulations require producers to use at least 80% of the local olive variety, the splendid Coratina, but allows 20% for other (cheaper) olives.
Granoro uses 100% Coratina right from the heart of the Castel del Monte PDO zone. The olives are grown totally naturally, without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. It's amazing to witness the olives harvested by hand and immediately cold pressed using ancient millstones.
The oil is delicate and fruity with low acidity. It has a nice piquant aftertaste due to high levels of polyphenols and antioxidants present in the Coratina (good for the arteries and skin). It is green with yellow reflexes. A great all-rounder for salads, veg, fish and meats.
NB. EV olive oils at this price are usually a mix of different oils, often of unknown origin.

Mediterranean sunshine and perfect soil conditions make Sicily a haven for the olive tree.
This is an estate-bottled, organic extra virgin olive oil produced by Giuseppe Giordano on his farm near Messina in north Sicily. It is a blend of classic fruity Sicilian olives, the Santagatese, Leccino and Cerasuolo. They produce a full-bodied flavour with hints of spice and freshly cut grass with a nice pepper finish.
Ideal for drizzling on grilled meats and vegetables, soups, broths and risottos. That's what Giuseppe says. We actually also love it on salads, raw veg, shellfish and with aged cheeses!
