Our award winning Gorgonzola Dolce (Sweet) has a luscious soft, almost spreadable texture with a rich and creamy tangy flavour and a delicate hint of blue. It is a gentle blue cheese that offers something totally different and is accessible to everyone. It works so well in combination with other cheeses, it usually takes up permanent residence on the best cheese boards.
This is a delicious original PDO Gorgonzola dolce from the designated production area around Milan.
Gorgonzola is perfect on its own with a baguette or crusty bread. Try it with fig jam, honey, grapes and pears.
Gorgonzola also makes a brilliant sauce base and can be mixed into risotto and pasta dishes as a creamy cheese sauce. It is also lovely in salads and mixed in with grilled or boiled vegetables.
A good, full-bodied red or a cool Moscato-style white work wonders!
What is Gorgonzola PDO cheese?
Dating back to the 8th century, the cheese is named after the town of Gorgonzola, near Milan, where it originated.
Gorgonzola is a soft cheese with blue veining made from pasteurised cow’s milk. There are two types; dolce (sweet) which is mild and creamy and piccante (sharp) with a stronger flavour and more discernible veining. It is thought to be the second most imitated cheese in the world after Parmesan!
Please note, this is an artisan cheese and is hand cut so weights may vary slightly.
