This is a very special version of the classic Nocino liqueur. It is made by the Petrone Distillery from Mondragone, a small town just north of Naples in Campania.
Nocino is a natural liqueur made from young walnuts which are still green and unripe, so have yet to harden. Tradition has it that to make the best Nocino, the walnuts must be picked on June 24th, the Festa di San Giovanni or St. John’s Day and that’s why Petrone have called their Nocino 24 06.
The Petrone Nocino Riserva is made from the infusion of walnuts and specially selected herbs and spices. It is left to mellow for years in French barriques to create an elegant liqueur of balanced structure and refined personality. It is dark, bold but not overly aggressive, and intensely aromatic with notes of walnut and spices.
Nocino has an avid group of aficionados in Italy and you can find hundreds of different recipes for it throughout the country. If you’ve never tried it before, here is a version that is certain to welcome you to the fray!
The Antica Distilleria Petrone was founded by Antimo Petrone and his wife Maria 130 years ago in Campania. Today, 5 generations later, Andrea Petrone continues to run the distillery with the same passion and values as his great, great grandparents. The recipes, traditional artisan production methods and the quality and provenance of the ingredients remain unchanged. All the liqueurs are totally natural and free of any kind of additive.
HOW TO USE – SUGGESTIONS
Nocino can be served chilled or at room temperature. There is often great debate over which is the best or right way to drink it. We prefer chilled in the summer as a refreshing aperitivo and no ice in winter as a warming digestivo. Often served with coffee after a meal. Wonderful drizzled over icecream. Try it with dark chocolate (be careful, very addictive!) It also makes a classy ingredient for creams or custard mixes. INGREDIENTS
Walnuts, herbs and spices, alcohol, sugar. 40% ABV |
